Lincoln State Farm Run

The State Farm Run is always a good training run for the Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon.  I ran it last year with my friend, Michelle and I ran it again this year with her.  It is run from the State Farm Building in Lincoln along the Mopac Trail.  It is nice and flat and the surface is crushed limestone.  I'm certain I could run a PR on this course, but running with a friend you only see once or twice a year is more fun!  The weather was perfect...45 degrees and NO wind!  We ran the 10 mile course in 1:32:21 or a 9:15 pace per mile.

Kindergarten Physical

Lily had her kindergarten physical shortly after she attended kindergarten round up.  The kids need to have it done within 6 months of school starting.  I knew that I had gotten her kindergarten shots when she was 4, so the appointment was going to be a breeze.  I was right...she did great!  They checked her eyes and her ears, which were both good.  Dr. Shidler examined her and off we went!

Lily's Stats at 5 1/2 years Old:

Height~47 3/4 inches or 3feet 11.8 inches~97th percentile
Weight~53.8 pounds~92nd percentile
Heart Rate~84 beats per minute
Blood Pressure~ 103/60

She is as healthy as a horse...and about as big as one too!

Preschool Field Trip to the Fire Station

I went with Lily's class to visit the Fire Station.  They walked across the street to the Fire Station on 168th and Q street.  All of the kids were so into the trucks and all of the equipment, and especially the pole!  They got to climb all throughout both of the fire trucks and they got to see a special camera that helps the firefighters see through the smoke.  They got a kick out of seeing the firefighters slide down the pole.  The field trip ended with a real call coming through and the fire trucks zooming off!

Kindergarten Round Up

I can't even believe that my little girl will be starting Kindergarten in August...where has the time gone??!!  Seriously?!  Lily had Kindergarten Round Up on March 20th.  She will be a kindergartner at Whitetail Creek Elementary School as of August.  Round Up was just from 9-11:30 one morning.  She got to meet all of the teachers and see her future classrooms.  She looks so grown up and I know she is ready, but mommy is not.  I held back the tears until I went back to pick her up.  They had planted seeds and there was a poem attached to it.  Lily asked me to read her the poem.  I read it to her and I was buckling her into her booster seat and I lost it.  What am I going to do with her out of the house 5 days a week...I will miss her dearly.  I am so proud of  that little girl.

Leprechaun Chase 10K

I ran the Leprechaun Chase 10K for the second time this March.  I ran with my friends, Jess and Sarah again.  This race is run from the Air and Space Museum through the hills of Mahoney State Park and back to the Air and Space Museum.  It is a hilly, but fun run.  The "lasses" get a 5 minute head start from the "lads".  If the lads win, all the men get a free green beer at the finish and vice versa.  This year the lasses won, so it was a free green beer at the finish line for us!  My finishing time was 49:47 which is a 7:59 pace for 6.2 miles.  I ran it faster last year, but you can't run a PR every time and I had a good time which is what is most important.

Soccer Fundamentals

Jason and decided that this year it would be better for Lily to take soccer fundamentals instead of playing on an actual team.  She played on a team last year, but she didn't understand the game.  Her fundamentals groups meets every Saturday morning at 9:30 for an hour and the kids learn the basics of soccer and they practice different drills.

Taekwondo

Lily took 2 months of Taekwondo lessons during the months of February and March.  She went just once a week, and I think she enjoyed it.  It was something new for all of us.  The teacher was rather strict for teaching little kids, but I suppose Martial Arts is no joke.  There were two sequences of moves they had learned...Tiger One and Tiger Two.  If the child could get up in front of the whole class and demonstrate the sequences they earned a yellow or red stripe.  Lily attempted a few times, but didn't quite get it...they had to do it PERFECT without ANY mistakes.  I was so proud of her for getting up there and trying though!  In March, the YMCA has a Strong Community Campaign and the money earned goes to families and children who couldn't otherwise afford to do any of the activities offered through the YMCA.  Her Taekwondo class held a Kick A Thon, and Lily raised nearly $140!

Valentine's Day

Wow...it has been a while since I have been on here...time to get updated!

Lily didn't have school on Valentine's Day, but they had their classroom party the Wednesday before.  Jason and I were both able to attend.  All of the kiddos were so excited to pass out their Valentines to all of their friends.  The girls also had a daycare party, but they weren't there for it.  They did bring Valentines for everyone there though.

Valentines Day has changed since having kids.  I just like to hang out at home and make something fun like heart shaped pizza...etc.  I had to work this year, so we didn't even do that.  Jason went out and bought the girls each a cute little (actually giant) puppy and a balloon animal punch thing.  I did the 14 days of Valentines with them again this year...they get a "treat" in their mailbox everyday from February 1st through the 14th.

Daddy Turns 34!

Jason celebrated his 34th birthday on February 9th.  He took the girls to church while mom competed in an indoor triathlon...yes I left him on his birthday...only for a few hours though.  When I got home, we watched him open his presents and had some lunch at one of the new restaurants at the new Gretna outlet malls.  Avery gave him a new travel coffee mug, Lily gave him a new Under Armor shirt and Under Armor socks and I gave him Nike Basketball shorts and a Nike workout shirt...we all did pretty good.  The only thing he returned was the shorts, and he got some Under Armor sandals instead.  It was FREEZING cold that day, and since the outlet mall is all outside we didn't stay long.

We hung out at home until dinner time, and then we took Dad to Joe's Crab Shack...we hadn't been there before.  It was a fun atmosphere and the food was pretty good.  The girls had a blast dancing with the waitress and playing with the different toys they give you.  Avery, as usual, didn't eat a thing and she threw a fit when we left.  We got home and sang to Dad and the girls helped him blow out his candles...and then we ate cake and went to bed!  I made his cake, which looked like Avery made it.  My mom actually asked me if Lily made it...what a smart mouth!  It may have looked like a child made it, but it tasted delicious!

It's the thought that counts...right?!
