Dear Baby K,

Dear Baby K,
We have made it 36 weeks together!  Just a few more to go until we get to meet you and see your sweet little face.  I sometimes write your big sister letters on here so I figured its about time I write you one.  Mommy finally started to do some stuff in your nursery yesterday to help get ready for your arrival.  Your big sister, Lily, helped too.  She knows that you are coming and I think you are very lucky to have a big sister like her.  I do have to warn you...be careful...she can be a little rough sometimes but it is all out of the goodness of her little heart.  She loves "baby" so much already and she can't wait to meet you!  Mommy and Daddy are guessing that you might be a little boy, but we can't be for sure.  We are all anxiously waiting your arrival!  We love you so much already and we haven't even met you.  We can't wait!
Love,
Mommy, Daddy and Big Sister Lily

Baby Update

Well, I did not get the answers I was hoping to get today because my ultrasound was cancelled to due a family emergency in the office.  I did have my regularly scheduled appointment with my doctor and I did get some questions answered.  The big question is how big this baby is and if it is reasonable or not for me to try to do a VBAC.  I am measuring ahead of my due date which could be an indication of a big baby and by feeling the baby Dr. Norton said, "Sorry, but I don't think this one is any smaller than your first one."  The only sure way to tell though is by ultrasound.  It is rescheduled for next Thursday.  Baby's heartbeat was 153 and all else is going well.  I did meet with the Diabetes educator and Dietician yesterday and I got my glucometer and new diet plan.  I have been following the plan pretty strictly for a week now and I think it has paid off.  I lost one pound since last week and all of my blood sugars have been in range.  I just feel hungrier than I used to, and I'm not a fan of poking my finger 4 times a day, but keeping a close eye on them is what is best for the baby and that is all that matters.  I did get out of having to do biweekly non-stress tests because my blood sugars have been controlled.  If they get out of range then I will have to go in twice a week to do a non-stress test to make sure all is well with baby.
I did talk to my Dr. about MY plan.  My plan is to go up until my due date without scheduling a C-section (once again if baby is a reasonable size).  If I go into labor on my own by my due date then I will try a VBAC.  If I do not have the baby by its due date we will schedule a C-Section the beginning of the next week...most likely October 26th because she does not do them on Mondays.  There were no signs of labor happening anytime soon today...not dilated or effaced at all.
More to come after next week's appointment and ultrasound!

35 Weeks

Could you guess that this might be a large baby like Lily was and that it might be getting just a little bit hard to sleep at night?

Lily's 2 Year Pictures

Lily had her 2 year pictures taken a few weeks ago by an old highschool friend of mine.  We haven't seen each other since highschool, but we have been following each other's blogs about our daughters.  Anne has a daughter who is just about 3 weeks younger than Lily.  Anne (Wang as I knew her :)) Peterson Photography does amazing work and I thank her so much for taking time out of a busy Husker Saturday to take Lily's pictures.  I don't know how she does it, but she managed to chase Lily around that morning and she got some really GREAT shots of her!  Check out her blog...there is a sneak peek of Lily's pics on it!  THANKS ANNE!

Gestational Diabetes

I got a phone call from my Dr. today saying she needed me to come in for a random blood sugar.  I asked why and she was looking at my labs from when I was in the hospital last week and my blood sugar was 246!  That is way too high especially after not eating or drinking for 24 hours.  I went in today and my blood sugar was 162.  I have been officially diagnosed with gestational diabetes.  I was very borderline when I was tested at 24 weeks.  Dr. Norton said good thing I got sick or else they would have never found it...I say whatever...I probably had it all along.  I am waiting for a phone call from the office this afternoon to see when I am set up to talk with the diabetes educators from the hospital.  I have to get education on my new diet and I have to get a glucometer to check my blood sugars 4 times a day.  Yippee.  How does this happen with only 5 weeks to go?  I also have an ultrasound scheduled for Thursday to check the size of the baby and to determine when we will deliver it.  These babies are, not always, but typically large babies.  Good news is that gestational diabetes is exactly what it sounds like...meaning once the pregnancy is over it usually goes away.  So sad to have to give up my mexican food and to have my hopes of doing a VBAC go down the drain....but gotta do what is best for the baby.

Lily's 2 Year Check-Up

Lily had her 2 year check-up today, and all continues to go well with her.  She has been a healthy baby since birth with rarely any sickness.  She got two shots today and only cried for a second.  What a champ!  Dr. Russell said her vocabulary and how well she can be understood is top notch right now.  There isn't really much else to report.

Lily's Statistics at Age 2:
Weight: 28 pounds~68th percentile
Height: 37.5 inches~99th percentile
***They say to double the child's height at age two for a rough estimate of how tall they will be once they are done growing...do the math...my child is estimated to be 6'3"!!!  I refuse to believe it!  If she is she better be in the WNBA!

2 Years Old!

Dear Lily,
Today, my sweet baby girl, turned two.  I can't believe it.  It feels like yesterday that daddy and I brought you home from the hospital.  You continue to put a smile on my face and in my heart.  I love you to the moon and back, higher than the sky, and deeper than the sea.  You have changed our lives in so many ways these past two years...all for the better.  I do need to let you know something though...you are very ornery and very hard for your mommy to control sometimes!  It is getting harder and harder to take you out to different places because you don't always like to be a good girl...instead you like to throw fits...MAJOR fits.  That is okay because no matter what you are my little girl and I love you very much.  You are just at that age.

We celebrated your birthday on Friday with lots of friends and family.  You had a Minnie Mouse pizza party.  It was obvious by the turnout of just how many people love and care about you.  You got so many presents that now our house looks like a toystore!

You started going to daycare again, but just two days a week.  You really seem to like it there with your teachers and new friends.  The other day mommy thought you were such a big girl because you got out of the car by yourself and walked up to the door and started playing right away.  Mommy was so PROUD of you, and a little sad too.  I know you will always need your mommy, but that day it felt like you needed her a little less.  I am just happy that you like your new friends and that you get to do fun stuff.  Today in church you joined the "older" nursery group, and you colored mommy and daddy a pretty cool art project!  It is now hanging on the fridge.  Ga Ga, Maddie, and mommy took you out to lunch today for your birthday.  Daddy had to work, and he was very sad he didn't get to spend all day with you.  You love your daddy very much and you are TOTALLY a daddy's little girl.  You often tell mommy to "GO" because all you want is your daddy.

You have some pretty big news coming up.  In just 5 short weeks you are going to be a BIG SISTER!  Aunt Kylie just had a baby girl and you already love that baby and want to hold her and kiss her, so I can only imagine what you will be like with your own baby in our house.  Mommy is pretty sure you are going to be the best big sister ever.

A Little Bit About You at Age 2:
*You love your fruit...you could eat fruit and nothing else
*You can spot a Taco Bell from a mile away and yell "TACO!"
*You love your baby dolls and have to sleep with one everynight...you still like Rosie too
*Your vocabulary has grown so much and mommy can even have a conversation with you!
*You can repeat your entire ABC's with mommy
*You can count to 4 on your own and then you skip to 9...we are working on that
*You LOVE Dora, Elmo and Mickey Mouse
*You like to be outside and ride your new Dora bike
*You say goodnight to the moon and Evangeline everynight before bed
*You have your new big girl room and you do very well in it
*You have started coming into mommy and daddy's room each night around 3:00am...we are working on this too
*After daddy goes to work in the mornings you come in bed with mommy to cuddle until we wake up...a mommy favorite!
*You love to paint and color
*You like pickles, pretzels, and fruit snacks for snacks...and "bopples"
*You have gotten pretty good at brushing your teeth...you like to fight daddy though :)
*You are ORNERY from head to toe
*You have beautiful auburn hair and big brown eyes that melt mommy and daddy's heart

Happy 2nd Birthday Baby Girl!
Love,
Mommy

Under The Weather

Tuesday started out as a great day after welcoming my new niece into this world, but as the night went on things got worse.  I started feeling really nauseaus Tuesday night around 9:00pm and I had a really bad "burning" feeling across my stomach.  I threw up several times after this and it continued on into Wednesday night.  We called Dr. Norton's office and she called in a prescription for Phenergan suppositories to help with the nausea.  If anything it knocked me out for a few hours, so at least the sleep was nice.  At 10:00 Wednesday night I still couldn't keep anything down...not water or anything and I still had the horrible burning pain in my stomach.  Jason called Dr. Norton again and she had us head into Labor and Deliver at Bergan to get checked out.  I had labs drawn to check my gall bladder, and thankfully those came back negative.  I was super dehydrated so I got 3 bags of IV fluids that I swear all went into my right hand...my hand was huge and swollen the next morning!  Oh well, I was peeing and feeling better.  I got some different IV meds for nausea and what they call a "GI cocktail".  I felt pretty good my Thursday morning and I was ready to go home.  Then the nurse put me and baby back on the monitor and told me I was having contractions.  I couldn't feel them...just tightening but no pain.  She let Dr. Norton know and Dr. Norton came to see me and said with this being my second baby she was not "impressed" by these contractions at 34 weeks.  She discharged me, and home we went!  Thursday night I started to feel the burning pain again, and nauseas, but not to the extent as it had been.  I took some more nausea meds and went to bed.  I woke up this morning feeling pretty good and I hope it stays that way because tonight is Lily's second birthday PARTY!

Presley Jane D'Allemand

My sister went in at 7:00 am this morning to have labor induced.  At 3:56pm her and Brian welcomed a beautiful baby girl into this world.  Presley Jane was born weighing in at 7 pounds and 15 ounces and measuring 21 1/4 inches.  Madison is a proud big sister and all are doing well!  Labor was a little rough for her, but she made it and very much worth her bundle of joy in the end!

Congratulations to Kylie, Brian and big sister Madison!
Lily is excited to have a new baby cousin!

Wildlife Safari Park

Yesterday, my sister and I took Lily to the Wildlife Safari Park.  Jason was out of town and I think my sister has been a little bored waiting for baby to come.  It is part of or connected to Henry Doorly Zoo in some way.  I wanted to take Lily to the zoo, but we were supposed to get storms so we didn't go.  Instead we enjoyed the little 4 mile drive in the car through the Safari.  :)  It was neat, and I think Lily enjoyed it.  Aunt Kylie kept saying the Elk had "big butts", and so of course Lily kept repeating her and she woke up this morning telling her daddy that she saw "big butts" yesterday!

Breathing a Sigh of Relief

I am breathing a sigh of relief as these past two days are over with.  Lily started her new daycare yesterday and she went yesterday and today.  I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am with it!  There were some tears shed on both days, but she quickly calmed down and had great days!  I was a little worried this morning because she was crying so hard she could hardly breathe when I dropped her off.  I called about an hour later to check on her and they said that she calmed down right away and had been playing ever since.  She ate all of her lunch today and took a good nap.  If you remember, she never ate...not once...at her other daycare.  This is a HUGE improvement!  She plays with the other kids, holds the little 8 week old baby, and seems to really enjoy it.  When I picked her up today she sat down on the step next to me and said, "hi mom," and then she got right back up and started playing.  I was so happy to see her adjusting so well so soon, but also kind of sad because I don't think that she wanted to leave with her mommy!

BACK to School

Lily not wanting to get out of bed this morning!

Today was Lily's first day of daycare, or school as we call it.  It is actually day one of round two.  Lily briefly attended daycare back in May, but has been home with mom and dad for the past three months.  She will go on Thursdays and Fridays for now.  Jason and I feel better about this in home daycare as it is run by sisters.  There are always two people there at all times.  Lily didn't want to get out of bed this morning, but once she was up and dressed she was all ready to go.  She was excited to go to "school"...until she got there.  She did fine and I wasn't going to say good-bye, but her teacher told her to tell mommy bye bye and then Lily started to cry.  I was able to hold my tears back until I got back to the car.  I didn't want her to see me cry this time.  I'm picking her up at 1:00pm today and taking her to lunch.  I have been staring at the clock and the time can't seem to pass fast enough!
My big girl all ready to go!
