Lily Rose 3 1/2 Years Old

Dear Lily,
This past Monday you turned 3 1/2 years old!  Holy smokes!  You continue to grow up right before our very eyes.  I ask you every single day to please stop growing and to please stay my little girl forever.  You tell me "No, mom, I'm a big girl."  You are such a beautiful little girl and mommy tells you this every single day.  You are so smart and you are...as you would say...hilarious.  The things that come out of that little mouth of yours...all I can say is that we are in big trouble when you get older!
This past week you told us that you have a boyfriend.  Mommy is a little upset because I was the LAST to hear this big news!  As you would say...WHAT THE HECK!  A boyfriend?  Yes, you tell me his name is Carson.  He goes to your daycare.  You first told grandma and grandpa and daddy about this little boyfriend of yours.  You told them that he takes you out to the backyard at school????  HMMMMMM....you promise me there is no kissing and no hand holding, so I guess I'm okay with that.  Silly Lily.  Don't you know that you are too little to be having boyfriends?!  Daddy says no dating until you are 21!
The other day you also told me and daddy that you are a very busy girl.  You said "I'm so busy.  I have church, swimming, school and basketball."  You are right little girl, and if you are this busy just imagine how busy mom and dad are trying to get you to all of these things!  I hate to break it to you but basketball didn't quite work out this year.  You HATED it, and you didn't even go to your last 3 games.  You do, however, LOVE swimming lessons!  You keep asking mommy if you can take dance and soccer, and I promise to get you signed up for one of them.  I think we will hold off on soccer for one more year due to how basketball went :).
You enjoy doing projects/crafts with mommy when we are home together.  Thank goodness for Pinterest...it gives mommy lots of good ideas for you!  Right now we are really trying to learn your letters and you are constantly asking "what letter does________start with?"  This really drives mommy nuts when you go on and on with this at bedtime...for hours!  I am glad that you are curious and learning though.  You have known your ABC's for a long time, but now we are focusing on sounds and recognition of the letters.  You are doing a great job!  We start each day with the letter of the day and we continue our day with coming up with new words that start with that letter.  You are catching on!
This summer you are looking forward to planting a garden with your dad.  This will be a project that you and him can do together.  We just hope Chubby Sue doesn't eat everything from it huh?!  You love your baby sister and you call her Chubby Sue and you tell her that she is a horse and a piggy!  This is probably why she beats up on you now and makes you cry most days.  She looks up to you and loves her big sis so much.  The first thing she says every morning when she wakes up is "YYIIIIIYYYYEEEE!" AKA (Lily).  She runs into your room and tries to wake you up.  You tell her...just five more minutes Avery.

Love,
Mommy

Lily's First Visit to the Dentist

Pediatrician's have different opinions on when a child should go to the dentist for the first time.  I thought that the dentist might have a better opinion since it is their specialty, so I called about a year or more ago to try to get Lily in.  Our dentist's office wouldn't even see her for the first time until she was 3 1/2 years old.  We took her to the same dentist that Jason and I go to since he is a family dentist and sees people of all ages.  She will be 3 1/2 in just six days, so we went today!  I had actually made her appointment about 6 months ago and we have been getting her prepared ever since.  She has been watching the Barney dentist episode, and we have been talking about going for a long time.  She was really excited for the day to finally come.

Lily is really good about brushing her teeth.  She, on a good day, brushes her teeth (with our help) twice a day.  On a bad day she brushes once a day, and I'm not gonna lie....on a really bad day...we forget.  The really bad days don't happen very often though!  I wasn't surprised at all with how well she did.  She hopped right up in the chair and was all chatty with the hygienist.  She laid back and opened her mouth right up.  No fussing or nothing!  They gave her a pair of sunglasses to wear to block out the bright exam light.  She thought she was pretty cool.  The hygienist counted her teeth and showed her all of the tools that are used in the dentist's office.  She first squirted water into Lily's hand and showed her how the little suction tool sucks it right up, and then she did the same in her mouth.  She cleaned her teeth and flossed them and Lily did great through it all.  The dentist then came in and talked to Lily a little bit about brushing and how important it was to keep a clean mouth.  Lily just stared at him.

She was thrilled to get a toy and a new toothbrush and toothpaste.  Nobody leaves the dentist's office empty handed!  I was bummed to hear that braces are FOR SURE in her future.  The dentist asked me if Lily still sucked her thumb, and I told him that she never has.  Her upper jaw is apparently aligned way ahead of her bottom jaw.  He said that until her permanent molars come in they don't do anything, but after that she would need go to an Orthodontist for x-rays.  He said something about her jaw again and then about the positioning of her teeth (I was chasing Avery around at this point) and how she would have to wear some sort of "appliance" before the age of 12.  When I hear "appliance" all I can think of is my little girl in a head gear...ick.  I don't really know what he meant, but he did say that braces would come after they got her jaw realigned.  Whatever...Jason and I both wore braces...they are just so EXPENSIVE!  Other than that he said that her teeth were healthy and clean and he would see her again in 6 months!

A Failed Picnic at the Park

Although it was 70 degrees today, it sure didn't feel like it at the park up on the hill!  I packed up a picnic lunch for the girls today and we strolled to the neighborhood park in the wagon.  It was supposed to be 70 today so why would I put a jacket on them?  Little did I know that it was super windy and up on the hill where the park was it was even windier! It sure didn't feel like 70 up there, and our lunch was blowing everywhere.  Jason met us on his lunch break...thank goodness because we packed up the wagon in the back of his truck and headed back home for a picnic on the picnic table in the living room.  The girls at least got  to swing for a little while before Jason got there.  They had fun riding in the wagon, and I think they were happy getting out of the wind.  We will try again another day!
