Lily's First Basketball Game

Lily started basketball today with The Mighty Hoopster's program at the YMCA.  She has been so excited for over a month to play.  She talked about it all the time.  I had no doubt in my mind that she would get out on the court and run and play and have a blast...I was wrong.  She played around for a little while when we first got there.  She and the coach and his daughter were the first ones there.  The rest of her team didn't show up until much later.  I don't know if it was because they got started late or what, but she DID NOT want to play.  She pouted, she cried, she picked her nose, she put her hands down her pants, she said she was tired, she wanted a donut, she wanted to go home, she said she couldn't make any hoops and that she wanted to go swimming.  She wanted to do anything, but play basketball.  She did not participate with the other kids and at one point the coach had to pick her up because she was crying.  Jason was on the court trying to help her, but she wasn't having it.  Finally,we put her sweatshirt on her and she just sat on Jason's lap.  We stayed until it was over and then when we got home she ate like a hog for breakfast and then she napped for HOURS.  I am telling myself her behavior was due to a long day the day before.  She was at daycare all day and she doesn't nap long there and then we went to Sesame Street Live last night.  She didn't get to bed until 10:30pm and had to be up by 7:30 this morning.  This may sound like an okay amount of sleep, but not for her.  She sleeps over 12 hours every night plus a 2-3 hour nap everyday.  She woke up from her nap today and told me that she would try again next week.  Bless her little heart...we will see!

It is hard to say that you are disappointed in a three year old, but I kind of was.  I really thought she would get out there and do it and have a blast.  I didn't want it to be my kid who whined and cried, but if she really doesn't like it I can't make her do it.  I need to understand that my kids will probably like different things than I liked as a kid.  I just want her to try.  She will probably like dancing and cheerleading...oh no!

The New Year

A sick little Lily Rose

We rang in the New Year...well we really didn't ring in the New Year this year.  We had two sick baby girls who didn't feel well.  Lily had Croup and as of New Year's Eve Avery hadn't caught it yet so she got to go for a day trip with Daddy.  Jason took Avery to Seward with him to celebrate another family Christmas with his mom's side of the family.  They left around 11:30am and got home by 9:30 that same night.  Lily and I celebrated together and spent some mommy/Lily time.  She had started feeling better New Year's Eve morning so I treated my little girl to dinner...leaving the choice up to her of course.  Where did she choose?  Well, it is always usually Chili's, Applebee's, Taco Bell or Romeos.  This night she went with her mommy's heart and chose Chili's!  We enjoyed a nice dinner together.  It is nice to be able to spend one on one time with each of the girls once in a while.  After dinner I took her to ToysRUs and she picked out a new movie...Charlotte's Web.  We came home, put our jammies on and snuggled up on the couch to watch it.  We were both in bed before 10:00pm.  She was in bed before Jason and Avery got home.  When they got home we put jammies on Avery and we all went to bed.  We were too tired to stay up to ring in the New Year.  I think this may have jinxed us because the next day Avery woke up with a fever and a cough.  She didn't stay sick as long as Lily did and is now just left with some yucky sinus drainage.  Anway...we hope that everyone is blessed by the New Year!

One Final Stop

Santa must have had too many presents for the girls so he had to leave some at Ma and Pa Mike's house.  We stopped at my parent's house on Christmas evening before heading home.  Bubba was there too and he hadn't opened up any of his gifts from anyone yet.  It is ridiculous how much these kids get.  I think we will have to do something different next year.  We don't even have enough room in our house to put everything, and they don't play with everything they get.  I think the dollars spent at Christmastime could go towards a better cause.  Don't get me wrong...I love seeing my kids open up their gifts and I love seeing the smile on their faces, but it seems silly that they get so much and there are so many kids out there who get nothing.

Christmas Day 2011

This is going to be a post of mostly pictures.  Christmas morning the girls slept in until around 8:30...BEST GIFT EVER for mommy and daddy!  Lily came in to our bedroom first and I think she forgot that Santa was coming until we said something to her.  Her little face lit right up and then she hurried downstairs to see all of her loot.  Avery was just along for the ride.  She first checked to see if Santa had eaten his milk and cookies and then she told me that she heard the reindeer on the roof...so cute.  She was thrilled to see that Santa left her a big girl bike!  Avery thought, or was hoping, that the bike was hers!  She crawled right up on the bike and then cried because she couldn't figure out how to get off of it.  We opened up presents as a family and then mommy made a yummy cinnamon french toast bake.  Lily rarely eats what I make and she even said, "This is really delicious mommy!."  Both of the girls, and the hubby, ate it right down!  We know that we should have went to church on Christmas morning, but we laid low and let the girls enjoy their new toys and such.  We took our time enjoying the morning as a family.  We weren't rushed as we usually are, and we got ready and headed over to my Grandma's for lunch.  It was a perfect Christmas morning.
