Kansas City Vacation

This is going to be a long one, but mostly in pictures.  Does anyone know how to upload a bunch of pictures at once and not have to do it one by one??  If so I'd love to know how!

Anyways, we went to Kansas City for a 4 night 5 day vacation 2 weekends ago.  We were down there for Jason's niece's wedding and also made a little family vacation out of it.  We drove down on Thursday evening and stayed until Monday evening.  We ended up staying in 3 different hotels in 4 days because I booked the wrong hotel and they wouldn't let me cancel it!  OOPS!  The first night we got there around 8:30pm and walked across the street for ice cream and then it was time for bed.  This hotel didn't have a pool, so no big deal to stay there for one night.  The next morning we headed to Ocean's of Fun and we all had a BLAST!  This was my favorite part of the trip.  Avery didn't care for the big pools, but she perked up once we hit the kiddie pirate area!  She went down every water slide she could and she went down over and over again!  Lily's favorite part was the red slide in Paradise Falls because she got to go down it with her Daddy.  We spent about 4 hours there, and it was plenty.

Our next destination was to Overland Park for Bridget's wedding.  We stayed at the Sheraton because this is where the reception was held and it was beautiful! The kids had a blast swimming in the pool and playing with their Kneifl cousins.  It was nice to be able to have some drinks at the reception and not have to worry about driving back anywhere.  The wedding was gorgeous and the reception was too.  Delicious food and even more delicious cake!  The entire family had a good time on the dance floor...even this momma!

The next day, Sunday, we went to a neat little place in Overland Park called Deanna Rose Farmstead.  Jason's sister-in-law, Peggy, mentioned this to us and thought that the girls would have a good time here.  She was right!  It was HOT, HOT, HOT, but still a very cool little place and not to mention CHEAP!  The girls got to see an old schoolroom, play at the park, feed baby goats, mine for gold, ride a pony, and feed the ducks.  There was much more to do there, but Avery was crabby and tired and we were all hot.  We ended our day with some ice cream.

Our next stop was to the Plaza...one of my favorites to do in Kansas City.  We stayed at the Holiday Inn right up the hill from the Plaza so it was just a quick (and HOT) walk down the hill and we were there!  We didn't shop at all because it was too hot to walk around and we were there on Sunday night and the shops were closed at 7pm.  We did eat at the California Pizza Kitchen (Avery LOVED it) and then Jason and I stopped for dessert at the Cheesecake Factory.  We went to Cold Stone Creamery to get the girls ice cream but a man came out and said they were closed due to mechanical reasons?  Oh well.  We always stay at this Holiday Inn with my family when we go to KC because of the big outdoor pool.  There is nothing fancy about the hotel, but the pool is great!  The girls, of course, LOVED swimming in it.  Lily liked it more than Avery.  Lily has gotten pretty brave in the pool this summer.  Jason's most memorable part of the trip was a late night swim with Lily in this pool....aaaaawwwweeeee.

Monday morning we decided against going to World's of Fun due to the 108 degree heat.  Nobody would have enjoyed it.  We went to Crown Center instead.  We ate lunch at a neat little restaurant called Fritz's.  It was a train restaurant and little trains dropped your basket of food down onto your table.  We also saw a little dinosaur exhibit, the Crayola Store, and went to Lego Land.  We spent a few hours here and then we headed back to Omaha!  We got to do quite a bit of things on our little vacation, and we had a great time!  I love seeing the girls so happy and getting to experience new things!

WOW...that post was brutal!

4th of July

Yes, I know...this post is a bit delayed.
We celebrated America's Birthday in McCook Lake, South Dakota at Mark and Cynthia's house.  It is always a fun celebration and the girls always enjoy seeing their Kneifl cousins.  They see their Paces side cousins almost daily, so it is a treat to see their other cousins!
We just made a day trip out of it.  The girls swam in the lake, played games and ate nothing but junk food all day long.  It was great...or at least they thought so!  It was also a celebration for Jason's niece, Bridget, who just recently got married in Kansas City (next post).  Bridget's bridal shower was incorporated into the day, and we celebrated by playing fun Olympic style yard games (ladder golf, javelin throw with pool noodles and bean bag toss).  The best part of the day was the delicious cream can supper!  This is one of my faves, and I was introduced to this delicious meal when I met Jason.  You throw brats, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, salt, pepper, beer, and oregano(some spice??) into an old farm style cream can.  You let it cook for about 2 hours or until it steams.  Everything is so juicy and yummy when it is done!  Of course the girls ate none of this and opted for cookies and watermelon instead.  We weren't able to stay for the firework show because it didn't start until 10pm and Jason had to work in the morning and we had a 2 hour drive back home.  The girls were fast asleep as soon as we hit the road and slept the whole way home. Jason and I enjoyed lots of fireworks on the way home along the interstate.  We caught glimpse of many big shows as we hit the Omaha area.  We hope everyone enjoyed their day as much as we did!

BBQ with Friends

Last Sunday night we were invited over to a friend's house for a BBQ, drinks and some fireworks.  We went over to David and Sarah's house...Sarah was a friend of mine in college and a former teammate of mine.  She has 3 beautiful children...Gabby 4, Izzy almost 3, and Trueman 12 weeks.  We enjoyed time there with our other friends, Jess and Kevin and their kiddos Rylee who is 2 and Weston who is 7 weeks.  I can't forget Carrie who was there also!  Carrie and Jess were also former teammates of mine in Wayne, and Jess was my college roommate 3 of the 4 years I was there.  It was nice for the kids to all get a chance to play together and for the parents to  sit down  and enjoy a drink and some adult conversation with one another.  Poor David slaved over the hot grill while the girls and other 2 guys hung out inside!  After we ate, the kiddos played outside for a while and we did some fireworks...IT WAS HOT!  Thank you to Sarah and David for having us all over!

Father's Day 2012

Any man can be a Father but it takes someone special to be a daddy.

A Dad is your biggest fan, even when you strike out.

A Dad is someone you never outgrow your need for.

You tickled my toes....checked for monsters , showed me the stars....And taught me how to reach them...I love you Dad.

I'm as lucky as can be, for the world's best dad belongs to me.
Daddy and his first born daughter, Lily Rose...September 12th, 2008

Daddy and his baby girl, Avery Grace...October 17th, 2010

Daddy
A daddy and his daughters, walking hand in hand,
Though he can't spend much time with them,
They say they understand.
When he's at work or on a trip, the memory of him lingers,
The two girls smile, they know they have him
Wrapped around their fingers.
A slight tilt of their pretty heads, a smile, a lowered glance,
A hug and kiss and, "Daddy please?"
He doesn't stand a chance!
In later years he will recall, with tenderness and love,
Two charming girls, with hands in his,
Two blessings from above.

We love you Daddy!
Love,
Lily Rose and Avery Grace
